Gold and Other Precious Metal Testing Machines
Know the exact worth of the precious metals you’re buying and selling
Do you know the exact elemental composition of an item when you buy gold and other precious metals?
No? Well, you should, because you might be costing yourself a lot of money!
Plating and alloys can make it difficult to tell how much of an object or sample is a precious element, and how much is a low-grade material.
Without fast, accurate analysis, you risk:
Paying too much
or getting too little when trading precious metals
Providing poor customer service
by not risking damaging their items with outdated nitric acid testing
Getting a bad reputation
as someone who doesn’t know what goods are worth
Get the best revenue out of your precious metal trades with the power of XRF analysis:

Understand the value
of the metals you test, including karats, alloy purity, and coatings

Make informed decisions quickly
to give customers on-the-spot responses

Be respected
as a diligent and fair precious metals trader
How XRF Technology Works
The X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) process involves the following steps:
One
A solid or a liquid sample is irradiated with high-energy X-rays from a controlled X-ray tube
Two
When an atom is struck with an X-Ray an electron from one of the atom’s inner orbital shells is dislodged
Three
The atom regains stability, filling the vacancy left in the inner orbital shell with an electron from one of the atom’s higher-energy orbital shells
Four
The electron drops to the lower energy state by releasing a unique fluorescent X-Ray which can be used to identify the element that emitted it.
Our Portable XRF Device Range
Thermo Scientific Niton portable XRF analysers are well-known for their accuracy and reliability.

Niton™ XL2
Precious Metal Analyser
- The Thermo Scientific™ Niton XL2 XRF Precious Metal Analyser is a fast, accurate, non-destructive and portable solution for testing the purity and chemistry of all precious metals.
- Using AuDIT™ technology, it can quickly detect gold plating and counterfeit, giving you the exact elemental composition of jewellery so that your transactions are guaranteed to be authentic.

Niton™ DXL
Precious Metal Analyser
- The Thermo Scientific™ Niton DXL is a fast, simple method for analysing precious metals. It can be mounted on a store front counter, making it perfect for a retail environment.
- Calibrated for precious metal analysis, it can detect a wide range of elements including: Au, Ag, Pd, Rh, Ru, Pt, Sn, In, Cd, Pb, Se, Ir, Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, Fe, W, Ge, Ga, Mn, Cr, and Ti

You can also quickly distinguish between plating and solid metal with AuDIT technology, which identifies both precious metals and common materials. This lets you sort the precious metals from the common ones without needing to be an expert.
